Laser Hair Removal Q & A
What is the Cheveux laser hair removal system?
The Cheveux system uses a powerful 810 nm laser, which studies have shown is safe for all skin types and all hair types and colors, combined with a special cooling tip for optimal patient comfort. The Cheveux laser is customizable, which means we can control the amount of energy that's directed at the hair to accommodate the specific needs of each individual patients for better results and greater comfort.
How does laser hair removal work?
Lasers emit energy that heats up the hair inside the follicle, damaging the hair so it cannot regrow. Hair contains a pigment called melanin. It's this pigment that helps hair absorb the heat, causing the selective damage that prevents and reduces hair growth without damaging the skin itself.
What happens during treatment?
Prior to your procedure, you'll need to let your unwanted hair grow so it will be the right length for treatment. Just before your session, the hair will be cut to a specific length. During treatment, Cheveux's handheld device will be passed over your skin to enable the laser energy to penetrate the follicles. A small “test” area may be treated first to enable the laser to be adjusted for best results. As the laser is fired, the cooling tip adjusts to ensure you stay comfortable.
Will I need more than one session?
A single treatment can significantly reduce hair growth, but most people benefit from multiple treatments over time to target hair during its growth phase. Hair growth occurs in a cycle, and in order for lasers to be effective, treatment must occur during a specific part of that cycle. Since different hairs can be in different stages of growth, multiple sessions – typically between five and six – are usually needed to ensure hairs are treated during the right stage.
